PIFD Inauguration Ceremony:
The Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design hosted its inauguration ceremony at its new facility in Johar Town Lahore, on 28th February 2011.
The Vice Chancellor Ms. Hina Tayyaba delivered the welcome note, in which she talked about the history of the Institute, the reason for its creation, expansion of the academic portfolio, acquiring the Charter for degree awarding status, financial aid, Board of Trustees, Endowment Fund and future.
The Secretary Commerce, Mr. Zafar Mahmood addressed the audience and briefly discussed the new initiative to establish 6 affiliated colleges in 6 cities of Pakistan in 2011.
The honourable Chief Guest Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Minister for Commerce also addressed the audience and announced two scholarships for PIFD students.
Souvenirs and token of appreciation were presented to some of the distinguished guests to honour and commemorate their contributions towards making PIFD a success.

Bright Young Things
Pakistan School of Fashion Design (PSFD) graduates Akif Mehmood and Mohsin Ali have been setting the ramp and media ablaze with their creativity and rave reviews in major publications and marked as one’s to watch out for in the future.
Akif received the Best Collection Award and Mohsin received the Bronze award at the PIFD graduate show 2010.
Akif Mehmood, Mohsin Ali and Ali Xeeshan (a previous PSFD graduate), were hand-picked by Pakistan Fashion Design Council Chairperson Mrs. Sehyr Saigol to showcase their individual collections at the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week in November at Karachi. This was the second Fashion Week for Ali Xeeshan, who had participated in the event earlier in February as well.

Sawatdee Kaa Bangkok!
The Gems and Jewellery department is part of the School of Accessories and Products, which was launched in 2008. The first batch flew over to Bangkok, Thailand in 2010 to attend a short-course and also the 46th International Gems and Jewellery Fair.
The top 15 students from a batch of 26 were selected to go for the week-long visit accompanied by 2 faculty members: Mr. Muhammad Aslam and Mr. Muhammad Umar, in September.
The students attended a short course called ’Introduction to Basic Gemology’, in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences (AIGS).
The students attended the 46th International Gems and Jewellery Fair, Bangkok to attend a Fair of International calibre was a great bonus for the students and staff. There is no better learning than experiencing the event itself!
Bon Jour Mod’ Spe!
Students from Marketing and Merchandising along with Mr. Hammad Khawaja and Mr. Tallal Khan visited our affiliate Mod’ Spe in Paris and also attended the mega prêt a porter.
They were welcomed by the Director Mod’ Spe Mr. Rene Mardallet, and attended classroom sessions with Mr. Bruno Benedic and Ms. Francoise Bathie.
At the prêt a porter, the students not only attended a fashion show, but they also got the opportunity to study upcoming fashion trends: silhouettes, colours and fabrics; new industry developments for eco-friendly fabrics, dyes and recycling and also experienced the process of fashion forecasting.

Every year, the top 10 (or more) students from Marketing and Merchandising department attend a semester at The Swedish School of Textiles in Boras, Sweden.
This study option is offered in the Autumn Semester and students can choose from a variety of courses and different credit hours. The courses offered range from Knitting to Fashion Logistics, Brand Development and Design Project.
Students are not charged tuition fee and are taught in English. At the moment there are 7 students from the batch of 2008, who are in Boras since August 2010 for a period of 5 months to complete Fashion Marketing and Merchandising Semester 5.

All the Graduates, Students are advised to get themselves registered at Virtual University of Pakistan for Pak- studies and Islamite in order to fulfill degree requirements.
